Artist's Comments
You may have seen my blank animated Rubik's Cube, but this goes way past it. I mentioned in the comments that I was planning on making this. Well, here it is!
So, you want to have it scramble a combination? I'll run you through how to do that. First, learn the cube and it's orientation. Most people who have seen or used a Rubik's Cube overlook the fact that the center pieces never move from their relative positions. This allows you to know which side is supposed to be which just by looking at the center pieces. So, now you know that, each side has a tag or identifier to use. I have it set up so that yellow is U (Up), red is F (Front), green is R (Right), orange is B (Back), blue is L (Left), and white is D (Down). The orange, blue, and white colors are not seen when the cube is in a solved state. Next, we identify which side to turn and which way to turn it. Using what I explained in the previous paragraph, you can specify which way or how much to turn it by placing nothing after the identifier for 90 degree turn clockwise, a single quote (') for 90 degree turn counterclockwise, or a number two (2) for 180 degree turn. The cube will turn a side with the "2" clockwise, but if you want it to go counter clockwise, just use two of the same side using the single quote. Here are a few example turn combinations:
The URL to the cube is: http://zavaboy.jimbug.org/rubik/cube.php Going to the link above will generate a random combination 8 moves deep. Also, remember that it generates each frame before putting them all together, this can take time (I estimated about half a second per 90 degree move, so just executing "U2 L' F" would take about 2 seconds) depending on how many moves you make, so please be patient. If a cube is cached, it will load much quicker. To specify a combination, put your moves after the following URL: http://zavaboy.jimbug.org/rubik/cube.php?moves= Note: When putting the combinations in the URL, no spaces are required, but you should URL encode a single quote into %27. You can use this tool if you're lazy: [link] Here are some examples, first two are my favorites:
The program is rather big, so you may prefer to use an online solver (which will not solve within 20 moves, but get you to the end), like this one: [link] That's about it! Please comment if you have anything to say! |
